These Are A Few Of My Favorite Sounds

With the exception of having to watch a Pennyrile Players production of The Sound of Music as a kid, I really didn’t have much interest in the show. Sure, I knew it had something to do with Nazi’s, nuns, and a large signing family, but otherwise I didn’t care. If it wasn’t Star Wars, it was a “no go”.

Times change and it’s now one of my favorites. The recent NBC offering of The Sound Of Music made me think about sound – in particular, my favorite sounds. Not songs, or bands, or movies, or voices, but sounds from my life. I hear some of these daily and others I don’t hear much anymore. Maybe it is my subconscious trying to tell me these sounds point to a few of my favorite things. Anyway, here they are.

The sound of:

  • A book being closed
  • Hot tea or coffee being poured
  • A baseball being caught in a catchers mitt
  • Shoes squeaking on a basketball court
  • The straining spring on old country screen doors
  • Wind blowing through pine trees
  • Water flowing through a creek
  • Wood popping in a camp fire
  • Horses hoofs tromping on the ground
  • Pages of  a Bible being turned

What are some of your favorite sounds?
